College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

A Brief History of the college

Founded in 1998, initially the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) consisted of two departments and one institute, the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Institute of Electronics Engineering. In 1999, the Institute of Communications Engineering was established in response to the national need for high speed communication systems and internet technologies. The Institute of Information Systems and Applications was added in 2001 to foster a group of interdisciplinary IT professionals. The Institute of Photonics Technologies was formed in 2003 to nurture engineers for the rapid growth of the photonic industry in Taiwan. In 2008, an Interdisciplinary Program of EECS was set up to provide training in both Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, with the hope of cultivating a group of engineering leaders with an expanded vision.
